Please enjoy this re-review of Rose Los Angeles, with all new flavors and dosages.

Here’s a tease: The Enrique Olvera cherry cola collaboration is one of the best-tasting edibles I’ve tried…ever! I wanted to write about it last year but it sold out!

I might even pop a 5 mg gummy tonight while watching the Winter Olympics!

But first…

Five quick things!

One: My heart goes out to the 300 journalists who lost their livelihoods when Jeff Bezos and his (former) publisher cut a third of The Washington Post’s newsroom. Among the layoffs were Aaron Hutcherson, a writer and recipe developer, and Daniela Galarza, author of the acclaimed “Eat Voraciously” newsletter. Related: Galarza’s WaPo column on the word “exotic” is absolutely essential reading. You can donate to The Post layoff fund right here, and you can still donate to the Vox Media Union layoff fund here. It’s tough out there for journalists. And I can’t tell you how angry I am about these cuts….I feel this one in my bones.

Two: Go spend a few minutes with this sharp Babbo writeup by NYT chief critic Ligaya Mishan. One of the best lines: “Despite the baggage and the orange-Croc-ed albatross, this is prime intellectual property, Babbo as Barbie. Keeping the name is a promise: The song remains the same. But should it?”

Three: My fellow contributing critic at the NYT, Mahira Rivers, awards two stars to La Chêne, which I’m dying to visit. Click through for lots of fun imagery of elegant pithiviers and folks snapping iPhone pics of every oligarch’s favorite liquid gold: Chateau d’Yquem.

Four: Here’s Minnesota Star Tribune critic Raphael Brion with a look at Eat Street restaurants amid the ongoing ICE surge…and in the aftermath of the killing of Alex Pretti.

Five: It’s been fun to see more big outlets bring consumables coverage into the mainstream. I loved this Lizzie O’Leary essay in Slate about how the journalist used 1 mg Rose edibles to cope with the anxiety inherent in a cancer diagnosis. She also writes about how a little bit of THC can help “quiet the horrifying drumbeat of authoritarianism.”
